a save button

One area where Luminotes departs from most other wiki software is that you don't have to constantly click "edit" and then "save" to make changes to your wiki. You just start typing and everything is taken care of for you.

So you may be a little surprised to see that Luminotes now has a save button in the upper right!

What use is this save button if Luminotes takes care of saving automatically? Well, it turns out that many Luminotes users, being familiar with other wikis and word-processing applications, simply expected a save button. Sort of as a way of assuring themselves that their work is indeed getting saved to the server.

So here's how it works. Saving in Luminotes is still completely automatic. You can simply ignore the save button, and everything will continue to get saved to the server without you having to worry about it. But if you must actually click a save button at any point, go ahead and click it! Your work will be saved to the server immediately.

Now, I should point out that when everything is already all saved, the save button will change to say "saved" and will appear grayed out and disabled. This way, you can tell at a glance whether your current work is saved, down to the last letter. Here's how it looks.

And it's as simple as that. Use the save button if you like, or ignore it if you want to let Luminotes take care of saving your wiki for you. Either way, you can rest assured that all of your work is getting saved to the Luminotes server.

I should also point out a user interface change that you may have noticed. The links on the right side of the page as depicted above are now fixed in position. So even when you scroll down the page to see other notes in your wiki, those links stay in one spot. That way, you can reach them easily without having to scroll back to the top of the page. This should make using Luminotes even faster and more convenient.

Enjoy!
