name server misconfiguration

name server misconfiguration

This morning you may have had problems looking up the luminotes.com domain name in order to connect to the web site. This was due entirely to a misconfiguration on my part.

Here's what happened. I was using a 3rd-party backup (or "secondary") domain name provider, and recently they were starting to be less than reliable. This meant that occasionally, a lookup of luminotes.com would fail.

So to increase reliability, yesterday evening I switched over from the 3rd-party provider to my own servers, and in doing so, introduced an error that probably prevented you from reaching the web site this morning. The servers were up and running just fine, but the mechanism that was supposed to resolve "luminotes.com" into something meaningful to a computer was not functioning.

So the problem should now be fixed, and you should now be able to reach the web site. I apologize profusely for any inconvenience this caused you. Feel free to email me if this affected you, and I'll do what I can to make things right.

The good news is that now with everything configured correctly and running on my own servers, this sort of issue should not occur in the future. I'm now no longer reliant on a 3rd-party provider for backup domain name servers.

Dan
