How are you using Luminotes?

Sorry, not understood

Please excuse me, I am afraid my English is not good enough to understand your proposal how use this wiki for a hierachy. What is the idea: Do you use the address of a folder just as name for a new note or do you see a chance to link from the wiki to the original place where your documents are stored?

Best regards

Luminotes to go (work in progress)

I'm using Luminotes to gather together in one place information regarding more than 500 rental properties and tenants that was previously stored in umpteen different Excel spreadsheets.  It remains a work in progress (because I keep finding more spreadsheets with additional info that I think would be useful to include in the wiki), and has involved much use of the "concatenate" function in Excel to produce a .csv file that could be imported into Luminotes.

But I now have a wiki that quickly and easily provides the overview information needed, especially when dealing with queries from telephone callers.  I no longer have to say "I'll get back to you on that one when I've checked the file" ten times a day.  Thank you Dan!

The next phase of my project is "Luminotes to go".  Many of the properties I deal with are in outback Australia where no mobile internet connection is available.  So the plan is to export the wiki to .html, and then massage it into a format more easily viewable on a mobile phone or PDA, so that lugging the laptop (with the desktop version of Luminotes installed) to every site visit will no longer be necessary.   How about an "Export to XHTML MP" feature?

Export to XHTML MP

I've never even heard of XHTML MP before now. That does sound like it would be a worthwhile export format. It should be somewhat easier to add now that I've made the exporting functionality work as separate export plugins.

Bits and bobs and worldbuilding

I have a few different notebooks, one for each little fantasy world I write with. Another one I use for to-do lists and plot ideas that strike me. It's really nice for keeping my thoughts gathered.

Worldbuilding

I actually use Luminotes for worldbuilding myself, so it's definitely designed with that task in mind. :)

Story plotting

I just learned about Luminotes and I am astonished by how well it works for plotting a story. Before I signed up I either had all the bits and pieces and little details splattered on my computer or cramped up in one big document, which makes it literally impossible to find the information you're looking for just in time.
Luminotes is such a big time saver. I can't believe I haven't heard of it before. Maybe I'll have some more ways to use it later on, but right now I'm just typing in all the stuff I need to finish my story. It's great!

Re: Story plotting

I'm glad to hear you've found Luminotes useful for plotting out your stories! It's really convenient for making one note per major character, location, or plot point. Then, whenever you mention that thing in another note, you can link to it for easy access.

My resource list

I am new to wikis and new to Luminotes.  I tried several others but keep coming back to this one because it is so simple to use.  I use it for my personal resources list.  I wanted to have a place where I could keep all my bookmarked sites organized with notes about why I like them and what to do with them.  Then I discovered that I could add images! and I was hooked.

I design beaded jewelry and web sites, so I needed a place I could put a list of resources for me and for my customers.  I have two startup pages: one about me and one that puts the resources into categories with links to those pages.

Since there is no tagging, I put the category into the title:
  • Beading:  Beading Classes
  • Web:  CSS & HTML
  • Photography:  Photo Editing Software

This makes searching easier - any info about beading comes up in search even if I forget to link to it.

I've been considering using Luminotes to put together some scholarly articles. Any chance Luminotes might get references/bibliography management (i.e. like Endnote) any time soon?

Cheers,
Jonny

References/bibliography management

Hi Jonny,

Formal support for scholarly references and bibliographies is on my to-do list, but I will admit that there are several features much higher in priority right now. However I would appreciate it if you could tell me any particular way that you envision Luminotes supporting references and bibliographies.
